Schottenfest 2016
by Alex, in KonzerteSchottenfest 2016
English version'With live music, art and historical presentations, the Schottenfest 2016 - like the Gaelic Monks and Irish before - is a new festival and platform for integration, creativity and learning. These musical concerts and presentations will take place around the first district and beyond, celebrating the rich historical links of the Viennese and the Gael, and that long lasting tradition and link between Ireland, Scotland and Austria.'

Tag 1 Theater am Spittelberg
- First Austrian Piping School
- Mark Peters
- Stuart Neville
- Oliver Welter(Naked Lunch)
- Aftershowparty at Papi's
- Sain Mus
- Shane Ó Fearghail (feat. Maria Burger, Antonia Wernig, Claudia Heidegger)
- Jack Lukeman
- Aftershowparty at Papi's
Tag 3 Abschlussfest im "The Highlander Scottish Pub"
- Singer & Songwriters of the VSC
Day 1 at Theater am Spittelberg
- First Austrian Piping School
- Mark Peters
- Stuart Neville
- Oliver Welter (Naked Lunch)
- Aftershowparty at Papi's
The First Austrian Piping School opened the concert at the Theater am Spittelberg. Mark Peters was the next act, showing playful guitar skills, harmonic melodies and a warm soft voice. Afterwards Stuart Neville entertained the audience with a little more powerful and traditional sounds and lyrics. The main act was Oliver Welter, singer of Naked Lunch. Hard pick strumming guitars, husky voice, melancholic lyrics. Without wanting to compare, at times it reminded me of Kurt Cobain.
Day 2 at Theater am Spittelberg
- Sain Mus
- Shane Ó Fearghail (feat. Maria Burger, Antonia Wernig, Claudia Heidegger)
- Jack Lukeman
- Aftershowparty at Papi's
The evening at the Theater am Spittelberg started with Sain Mus who's music is based on improvisation mixed with very modern effects and classical sounds as well. Shane Ó Fearghail followed them with, in my opinion, the closest sounds to classical irish singer & songwriter's music. Accomponied by a bagpipe, cello, violin and a second voice he created an amazing atmosphere. Jack Lukeman was the headliner of the evening and his show was shaped by expressive body language and facial play. With his performance he made the audience being a part of a musical journey.
Day 3 Final event at The Highlander Scottish Pub
- Singer & Songwriters of the VSC
At the final event of the Schottenfest lots of members of the Vienna Songwriter Circle performed at The Highlander Scottish Pub. The evening was a worthy final event with great music and good talks and lasted 'till early in the morning.
